How KoR Whitening Works

KoR Whitening gels are specially designed to quickly liberate oxygen, oxygen ions and radicals when placed in the mouth. Because of this, KoR Whitening gels are chemically unstable and are required to be constantly refrigerated until use. Once the gels begin to reach room temperature or warmer, the whitening gels will begin to degenerate and lose effectiveness.

That’s why they have to be specially delivered in refrigerated vehicles, stored in special refrigerators at our Keller, TX Dentist office, and then used immediately after being removed from storage so that they provide the maximum effect. By maintaining constant refrigeration, the degradation process causes a loss of only 1-3% before use.

How KöR Whitening Combats Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity occurs during the oxygenation process, where the whitening cleans the tooth as well as displaces the dentinal tubules so that the tubular fluid is able to flow properly. This allows the whitening chemicals an osmotic gradient in the fluid flow that runs out towards the pulp which can cause varying levels of sensitivity.

KöR Whitening gels come with a Kor Desensitizer that reduces sensitivity and prevents further sensitivity before it has a chance to cause discomfort. The desensitizing method blocks the orifices of dentinal tubules that contain the cytoplasmic extensions of odontoblasts that once formed the dentin and maintain it. By protecting the dentinal layer between the enamel and the pulp layer where the blood vessels and nerves are, we can prevent any pain or discomfort caused by sensitivity.

Rather than simply treating the sensitivity, our blocking of the dentinal tubules mechanically stops the fluid within from moving and in so doing, actually prevents the sensitivity from occurring. When the natural smear plugs are moved, this can increase tooth sensitivity by 32 times! The difference is definitely noticeable.

By plugging the orifices of the dentinal tubules, KoR desensitizers remove the space for pulpal inflammation and sensitivity. The whitening chemicals simply won’t travel through to the pulp. This is one of the primary reasons why KoR is the most advanced method of teeth whitening in the world.
